Research Communication

I work with universities, research institutions, international and non-governmental organisations, and other organisations to translate complex research into accessible, engaging, and impactful writing for wider audiences.

This includes translating academic and technical work into writing that can be understood and used beyond specialist contexts, while maintaining accuracy and critical depth.

What I do

I support a range of research communication work, including:

Public-facing articles and essays

Research summaries and explainers

Reports and policy-oriented writing

Website and project content

Editorial support for research outputs for non-specialist audiences

Ethical and conflict-sensitive communication

A key area of my work focuses on ethical and context-sensitive communication, particularly in development, humanitarian, and research settings. I provide support for organisations and researchers working in conflict, post-conflict, and crisis contexts, including:

  • Reviewing content and communication strategies for ethical and responsible representation
  • Advising on sensitive reporting and trauma-informed communication
  • Supporting humanitarian storytelling practices
  • Providing input on the presentation of research and programme outputs in complex contexts

Making research accessible

Academic or institutional research is often rich and complex but difficult to access outside specialist audiences. I work closely with researchers and organisations to:

  • Clarify key ideas, arguments, and insights
  • Improve structure and readability
  • Adapt tone for different audiences
  • Retain critical depth while improving accessibility

The aim is to help research reach:

  • Wider public audiences
  • Policymakers and stakeholders
  • Interdisciplinary and non-specialists readers

Approach

My work focuses on ensuring research is communicated clearly, responsibly, and with impact while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

Ethical and responsible communication

My approach is grounded in a critical understanding of representation, voice, and narrative power. This is particularly important when communicating research in:

  • Humanitarian contexts
  • Development work
  • Work involving communities and lived experience

Who I work with:

  • Universities and research centres
  • NGOs and humanitarian organisations
  • Think tanks and policy organisations
  • Research-led projects and collaborations

Outcomes

The aim is to produce writing that is:

  • Clear
  • Accurate
  • Accessible
  • Responsible
  • Impactful

I help ensure that your policy and research outputs are polished, professional, and credible, checking for clarity, consistency, tone, and editorial standards
